Media Release – 16 December 2014
On behalf of the Law Society of Tasmania, President Matthew Verney today expresses the condolences of the Tasmanian legal profession in respect of the tragic death of Sydney Barrister, Katrina Dawson.
Mr Verney said
“the recent events in Sydney are a sobering reminder that horror can occur at anytime and can affect anyone. To occur at this time of year, when so many of us are thinking ahead to time with our families and loved ones makes those events that little more horrible. By all accounts Ms Dawson was struck down while acting selflessly and protectively for a friend. We send our best wishes and support to her family and her colleagues in the Sydney legal profession.
The Law Society of Tasmania includes in its expression of condolence, Mr Tori Johnson who was also so tragically struck down whilst acting bravely in this horrible incident. Our thoughts and wishes are with his family and loved ones.”
