Proposed Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Conduct) Rules 2020 and Rules of Practice Amendment Rules 2020

Notice of the making of rules about legal practice pursuant to section 225 of the Legal Profession Act 2009 

Take notice that the Law Society of Tasmania intends to make the following rules about legal practice in Tasmania engaged in by Australian legal practitioners other than those legal practitioners practising solely as barristers.  

Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Conduct) Rules 2019 

  • The object of the Rules is to assist legal practitioners to act ethically and in accordance with the principles of professional conduct established by the common law and the Rules.  
  • The Rules may be accessed from the home page of the Law Society’s website: www.lst.org.au. Alternatively, a copy may be inspected at the Law Society of Tasmania, 28 Murray Street, Hobart 

Amendments to the Rules of Practice 1994 

  • The object of the Rules is to remove rules that are redundant and make new rules relating to the conduct of legal practice, being; transfer of a solicitor’s practice, acting for a debt collection or mercantile agency, conducting another business and litigation lending  
  • The rules may be accessed from the home page of the Law Society’s website: www.lst.org.au. Alternatively, a copy may be inspected at the Law Society of Tasmania, 28 Murray Street, Hobart 

Comments and submissions on the Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Conduct) Rules and the amendments to the Rules of Practice are invited and must be submitted to the Law Society by 5pm on 10 April 2020. Comments and submissions can be:
