Carina Field Recognised with the 2025 Early Career Lawyer Award

The Early Career Lawyer Award is presented to a nominee who has made an outstanding contribution to the Tasmanian legal profession during the first five years of practice and/or is an outstanding example to the legal profession.

This year’s recipient, Carina Field, has demonstrated exceptional dedication to justice, advocacy, and community engagement, making a profound impact in a remarkably short time.

Carina began her legal career in Victoria before moving to Tasmania, where she joined the Women’s Legal Service Tasmania in January 2024. In less than a year she made a meaningful difference, not only to her clients but also to the broader Tasmanian community.

Specialising in family law, family violence, and migration and refugee law, Carina has provided critical legal support to vulnerable Tasmanians, helping them navigate complex legal challenges with care and precision. Her commitment to justice extends beyond legal representation – she has played a key role in raising awareness of modern slavery in Tasmania through community conversations and advocacy, bringing attention to an often-overlooked issue.

Her pro bono work with Anti-Slavery Australia further reflects her dedication to advancing justice for marginalised individuals. In addition, she has worked collaboratively with Laurel House, delivering consent and respectful relationships education in high schools across Tasmania, empowering young people with essential legal knowledge.

Carina’s commitment to legal education and community engagement is evident in her participation in events such as the ‘What is a Human Right?’ panel discussion, as well as her ongoing collaboration with key community organisations to foster a more inclusive and multidisciplinary legal culture.

By embracing a holistic approach to law – considering social, economic, cultural, and political factors – Carina has set an inspiring example of how early career lawyers can drive change and make meaningful contributions to both the profession and the community.

Through innovative initiatives, collaborative efforts, and steadfast advocacy for justice, Carina has enriched Tasmania’s legal landscape and inspired others to follow her lead.
