From the President

31 January 2025

This week marks the opening of the Legal year and with it the Legal profession dinner tonight and first meeting of Council for 2025 on Saturday. Of course there also Ceremonial sittings for Chief Justice Shanahan and Justice Cuthbertson over the course of the week.

The year ahead will bring many challenges and changes. The widespread introduction of PEXA for conveyancing for one and cuts in Legal Aid funding loom large. The Society will continue to support and advocate for the profession in the strongest possible way to attempt to overcome these hurdles.

In the meantime, I would like to wish everyone well for the upcoming year and please remember that I am always available to discuss your suggestions / problems and issues, as are all Council members. I look forward to speaking with as many of you as possible this year when visiting throughout the state over the next few months.

Regards,
Will Justo
President of the Law Society of Tasmania
