You may have seen my update to the profession in the Law Letter a few weeks ago, in which I foreshadowed an upcoming survey about the Opening of the Legal Year celebrations. That survey is now live and can be accessed here. It should only take 5 minutes to complete and will provide the Society with helpful feedback as we consider what the Opening of the Legal Year celebrations look like in future.
On the topic of surveys, if you haven’t already completed it please take the time to also fill out the Practical Legal Training (“PLT”) survey which is being conducted by the Admissions Committee of the Legal Services Council and the Law Admissions Consultative Committee. The delivery of PLT models is being reviewed nationally and completion of this survey may very well help to ensure the continuation of the Tasmanian Legal Practise Course (“TLPC”) in its current format. I know most legal practitioners in Tasmania agree that the TLPC course is invaluable to our legal profession and offers opportunities to graduate lawyers that other PLT courses do not. I am looking forward to meeting with each of the Committees of the Law Society over the coming weeks, to better familiarise myself with the issues and projects which they are currently working on. The Committees are key to the activities of the Law Society so I feel strongly that it is my responsibility to learn about and support the work they are undertaking.
