Media Release – 14 November 2014
The President of the Law Society of Tasmania, Matthew Verney today congratulated Mr Andrew McKee and Ms Sharon Cure on their appointment as Magistrates.
“Mr McKee is a practitioner of considerable experience and ability having practiced in the private profession, for the Legal Aid Commission and more recently in the civil section of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. He will bring to the role an understanding of the full breadth of criminal and civil law. Mr McKee is a long standing member of the Council of the Law Society and former Vice President. The Society will miss his contribution.
Having regard to her impressive resume, the Society is confident that Ms Cure is an excellent appointment and will serve the Court and the people of Launceston well.
The Society has been particularly concerned with the delay in the appointment process, which has led to significant backlogs and delays in the north and north west courts. I am hopeful these backlogs can now be addressed.”
