Nicholas Poynder

Nicholas Poynder is a barrister at Rosny Chambers, Tasmania. Mr Poynder was admitted in 1984. He completed a Bachelor of Arts (1979) and Bachelor of Laws with Honours (1983) from the University of Tasmania; and a Master of Laws (1997) from the University of NSW. He specialises in administrative law; in particular immigration and anti-discrimination law. Nicholas was formerly based in Melbourne at the Victorian Bar (1990-1993) and in Sydney at the NSW Bar (1998-2024), and is now based in Hobart.

Nicholas is listed in the Immigration category of the Australian Financial Review “Best Lawyers in Australia” every year since 2012. He is author of the judicial review commentary in the LexisNexis Australian Immigration Law service. Nicholas is also consulting editor of the Federal Law Reports.
