Anna Norton, Senior Crown Counsel, Director of Public Prosecutions
About the Presenter:
Anna Norton is Senior Crown Counsel with the Director of Public Prosecutions. Anna was a former Associate to Justice Blow (2006-2007). She has worked exclusively in criminal law since commencing her practising career at the (then) Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania in 2009. Anna was employed as a Duty Solicitor at the Commission and represented individuals charged with simple offences to indictable crimes. In 2011, Anna commenced her foray into prosecution at the Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, where she conducted summary hearings and assisted with criminal trials involving Commonwealth crimes. A switch to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Tasmania occurred in 2016. And since that time Anna has prosecuted crimes on behalf of the State, been involved in the unexplained wealth work at the Office and, since 2021, assumed responsibility for the Office’s work under the Dangerous Criminals and High Risk Offenders Act 2021. Anna has been co-president of the (then) Young Lawyers’ Southern Committee, Tasmanian Representative on the National Young Lawyers’ Committee and Tasmanian nominee on the Australian Association of Crown Prosecutors. She is a member of Judiciary Panel for the Cricket Tasmania Premier League.
