COVID-19 Emergency Provision (Residential Tenancies)
|3 April 2020 – The Tasmanian Government has issued a Notice under Section 22 of the COVID-19 Disease (Emergency Provisions) Act 2020 (COVID-19 Act) to prevent residential rental evictions. This will mean that evictions cannot occur for at least the next 90 days. The Notice protects residential tenants, particularly those who are experiencing hardship from a loss of income as a result of COVID-19. For more information go to LINK.|
Settlements – Conveyancing
Below is a link to a COVID-19 communication received from the Hobart SAI Global Settlement Room regarding a change of venue and booking considerations to assist it to meet social spacing objectives.
Subject to any future government directives affecting continued operations, SAI has every intention of keeping its settlement rooms open.
The Society has been asked to advise practices that use of the facility is now limited to SAI related settlements only (that is to say, SAI must be involved, you cannot settle there as a matter of convenience only). Contemporaneous (domino) settlements are permitted.
In relation to all other settlements the Society encourages firms to communicate with other parties regarding appropriate open spaces to meet, taking any appropriate precautions (own pens, safe document handling measures, etc.).
Practices are reminded to consider maximising their clients’ protection through priority notices and the use of caveats where appropriate.
