Professor Benjamin J. Richardson
Ben is a professor of law at the University of Tasmania, specialising in film studies, environmental law, and property law. His 30-year academic career has included positions abroad at the University of Auckland, University of British Columbia, University of Manchester, and York University. He continues to maintain close ties to Canada where he periodically teaches.
Ben is the author or editor of 14 books, including The Art of Environmental Law (Bloomsbury, 2019), Time and Environmental Law (Cambridge University Press, 2017), and Company Law and Sustainability (Cambridge University Press, 2015). His latest research project is investigating the role of conservation covenants in Australia as a legal mechanism for private land conservation.
Beyond academia, Ben has volunteered in a variety of community and professional groups, including the Australian Panel of Experts on Environmental Law, the Environmental Defender’s Office, and the Tasmanian Independent Science Council.
