Martyn Hagan Appointed Secretary-General of the Law Council of Australia
The President of the Law Society of Tasmania, Gregory Geason has welcomed the announcement that the Executive Director of the Law Society, Martyn Hagan has been appointed Secretary-General of the Law Council of Australia, the Australian legal profession’s national representative body.
“Mr. Hagan has been acting Secretary-General since 8 January 2013 and his appointment comes after an extensive national recruitment search. His appointment reflects his standing within the profession nationally, his management ability and leadership qualities” said Mr. Geason.
Mr. Hagan has held the role of Executive Director of the Law Society for 10 years. During that time he has led the Society through a period of significant change including the commencement of the Legal Profession Act 2007, which, among other changes, meant that the Society was no longer responsible for investigating complaints against lawyers.
“Under Martyn’s watch the Society has become more member focused and responsive” Mr. Geason said. “I have no doubt that the Tasmanian legal profession’s loss will be the national profession’s gain.”
