Trevor McKenna, Barrister, Derwent & Tamar Chambers
About the Presenter:
Mr Trevor McKenna, Barrister, Derwent and Tamar Chambers. Before coming to the Bar, Trevor was a senior associate at Ogilvie Jennings. During his 15 years as a solicitor, Trevor regularly appeared as counsel in courts and tribunals both at first instance and on appeal. He has experience in all aspects of family law including parenting matters involving allegations of unacceptable risk and financial matters with issues related to bankruptcy, equity, trusts, corporations law, and third party disputes. Trevor also undertakes work as an Independent Children’s Lawyer and Separate Representative or Direct Representative Lawyer. Beyond his family law practice, Trevor provides advice and conducts disciplinary litigation under the Legal Profession Act. Trevor is an Executive member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia; Co-Editor of the Australian Family Lawyer Journal; Chair of the Law Society of Tasmania’s CPD Committee; Past President of the Law Society of Tasmania (2020/2021); and a lecturer in Family Law Practice and Procedure, Tasmanian Legal Practice Course.
Matthew Strong, Barrister, Michael Kirby Chambers
About the Presenter:
Mr Matthew Strong, Barrister, Michael Kirby Chambers. Matthew was admitted to practice in April 2006. He has significant experience in Family Law and Child Protection and for the last 17 years has practised almost exclusively in those areas. Matthew worked in private practice in the ACT from 2006 until 2013 as a solicitor advocate in the Family Law Jurisdiction and Children’s Courts. From 2013, Matthew commenced appearing in trial/contest work, with the Northern Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA). He has appeared in the Family Court, Federal Circuit Court, the NT Children’s Court, and the Supreme Court of the NT in Appeals. In 2015 Matthew joined Victoria Legal Aid from NAAJA, as In-House Counsel. He regularly appeared as Counsel in interlocutory matters, VCAT reviews, contests in the Children’s and Magistrate’s Court, County Court, and Supreme Court of Victoria and in Child protection and Family Violence matters, including appeals. Matthew also regularly appeared in Final Hearings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court and in the Appeals Division of the Family Court and in the Supreme Court of Victoria. He has conducted several multi day advocacy training workshops for early career lawyers and conducted moots for the ANU PLT program. Matthew provides advice to individual lawyers in relation to case management, including litigation preparation advice and case planning work.
