The commencement of the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (Additional Jurisdictions) Act 2024 and the Disability Rights, Inclusion and Safeguarding Act 2024 take effect from 1 July 2025.
This suite of legislation marks the most significant change to TASCAT since established in November 2021. A news article is now available on the website providing an overview of the changes implemented today:

It results in TASCAT taking on jurisdiction transferred from the Magistrate’s Court pursuant to 64 statutes – see here. Most of these matters are assigned to the newly formed Administrative stream in the General Division, with some transferred to the newly named Occupational and Disciplinary stream.
The Health Practitioners stream is renamed the Occupational and Disciplinary stream. This is to reflect the fact that whilst the Tribunal remains responsible for adjudication of disciplinary matters for health professionals, we also take on a similar role in relation to real estate agents, architects, conveyancers, teachers, and others. A new stream is created in the Protective Division – the Community, Children and Families stream. A table outlining the new jurisdictions assigned to this stream is available here.
The Forestry Practices stream is abolished, and its jurisdiction transferred to the Resource and Planning stream. As from today, the structure of the Tribunal is as follows:

In the Guardianship stream, the Tribunal’s jurisdiction in relation to approving restrictive interventions is removed from the Tribunal and transferred solely to the Office of the Senior Practitioner. The Tribunal will be an avenue to seek to review certain decisions of the Senior Practitioner, and this new jurisdiction is assigned to the new Community, Children and Families Stream.”
